No Surprises in Costs
Ask Counseling LLC complies with the Federal No Surprises Act effective 1/1/2022, put in place to
Financial Policy
- Payment is required at the start of each session
- Cash, check and all major credit cards are accepted
- Cancellations made less than 24 hours ahead of the session are charged the full session fee
Insurance
Ask Counseling LLC is not contracted with any insurance companies. Most insurance companies dictate the number of sessions and the type of therapy you are allowed to receive. Ask Counseling LLC believes this should be decided privately between you and your counselor. If you prefer to receive counseling from an in-network provider through your insurance, please contact your insurance directly and ask for names of providers with current availability.
Please note, many insurance plans do not cover career counseling, financial therapy, or couples, relationship, or marriage counseling because they are not considered to be “medically necessary”.
Medicare
Ask Counseling LLC opted out of network with Medicare effective 1/1/2024. Opting out means Ask Counseling LLC cannot be involved in any Medicare program; including original fee-for-service (traditional) Medicare, Medicare Managed Care Plans, Medicare+Choice Plan and Medicare Advantage Plan. Clients on Medicare are invited to sign a Medicare Private Pay Opt-Out Medical Services Contract at the start of their services. Ask Counseling LLC does not provide Superbills to clients on Medicare.
Medicaid/OHP (Oregon Health Plan)
Ask Counseling LLC is unable to work with clients who are covered by Medicaid – Oregon Health Plan (OHP) insurance. Psychotherapy is a service fully covered by OHP through our tax dollars. OHP members wanting to pay for psychotherapy out-of-pocket must notify OHP of their ability to do so. This may make them ineligible for OHP coverage.
Out-Of-Network Coverage
If you would like to use your insurance’s Out-of-Network (OON) coverage with Ask Counseling LLC, you may request a medical receipt to submit for reimbursement (Superbill). Full payment is still required at the start of your session, and the reimbursement would come to you directly from your insurance company. Ask Counseling LLC provides Superbills for reimbursement to clients who are not on Medicare. A Superbill includes your mental health diagnosis and your sessions need to be “medically necessary”.
Career Counseling, Financial Therapy, and Couples Counseling services are not considered medically necessary and may not be covered if there isn’t also a mental health diagnosis.
If you do submit an OON claim to your insurance, Ask Counseling LLC takes no responsibility for pursuing that claim or for your insurance company’s reimbursement decision: OON claims are entirely between you and your insurance company.
If you would like to explore this option further, check with your insurance company about your Out-Of-Network coverage for mental health services prior to seeking services:
-
Is there a deductible that must be met prior to receiving benefits for out-of-network mental health services? Once the deductible is met, what are the benefits for out-of-network mental health services?
-
Are there any limits to reimbursement? Examples may include: a maximum amount reimbursed per session, or a limit on the number of sessions allowed.
- If you’re interested in couples, relationship, or marriage counseling, check if your insurance reimburses OON services for CPT code 90847 for couples counseling with diagnosis code Z63.0: “Problems in relationship with spouse or partner”. Please note: Ask Counseling LLC does not provide Superbills to clients on Medicare insurance.
Using FSA or HSA
You may also be able to use a Flex Spending Account (FSA) or a Health Savings Account (HSA) to pay for counseling.
